On Retreat with Geneen – May 14-17

In This Moment …

These are indescribable times: once-in-a-lifetime huge times. Challenging, vulnerable, roiling, fearful, spacious, open, empty, and for some who’ve longed to be still, relieving times.

For those of you who are not on the medical front-line (and ten thousand thank-you’s, prostrations and blessings to those who are), this is a time to settle and be with the many things/feelings/situations that we never seem to have time to be with. That we keep telling ourselves that someday, when we have time, we will finally get to the bottom of not only our relationship with food, but all the ways we stand in our own ways. Keep ourselves from living full-tilt, full-power, full-authenticity.

This is the time, now, to begin. With sheltering in place and the vast amount of time most of us are spending in close proximity to the refrigerator, the question about how to manage our emotions and thoughts and therefore, our relationship with food keeps coming up. So I urge you to understand and then take action on that automatic move to food, soothing yourself with food, hoarding food — the whole pattern of compulsive eating. Take time for yourself to know that this is a conditioned pattern that can dramatically change. If you make the effort. Take action.

Remember the Portkey in the Harry Potter novels? It was the instrument that allowed you to transport yourself from one time to another, from one place to another. You are holding your portkey in your hand, your heart: your chance to go deeper, to transport yourself to ease, freedom, comfort in your body. Along with everything else that is occurring, this is the time (because you have it) to explore what keeps you from being comfortable in yourself and your own mind. To find that in you that is courageous, open, willing to be with what comes up with an attitude of infinite kindness.

If ever there was a time when being on retreat was important—even crucial—it is now.

As we cannot gather in person this spring, we are offering a livestream, online retreat — and are incredibly grateful that we have the technology to do so. I’ve just finished an online retreat with a friend, and I was amazed at the depth that we touched together. Amazed at what could happen, screen to screen. I cried, laughed, felt utterly moved—and by the end, felt restored by being alone and together. I learned (or at least scratched the surface of) the many levels of feeling and experiencing that can happen when we are in-screen contact with each other.

Please read through our offering for the May online retreat, described below. I look forward to seeing you very soon in retreat.

With much love for your health, your safety, your presence—and for that of this precious world in which we find ourselves,

Your Relationship With Food Is The Doorway

If there was ever a time when we become aware of how we spend our attention, where our minds wander off to, what our values are—this is the time.

And if you have been turning to food, if that part of you that feels as if it can’t or won’t get enough is getting triggered and you are turning to food to soothe yourself, you can learn different patterns. Really you can.

Almost everything in your outer world has changed in these past few weeks, why not effect a parallel inner change?

Why not actually pay attention to what has been haunting you for most of your life?

Why not set yourself free?

With all the time that you are not going out, not distracting yourself, why not focus that attention on freeing yourself?

The live May online retreat is designed to do just that. We know it works. We know that anything changes if you practice what you want to change.

Join me. Join us. Take this time to release yourself from obsession. You’ve done so many other things in your life that you didn’t think you could do. Now, do what would ease your mind, your heart, your sweet body.

Awaken The Power Inside Of You

“How much do you want yourself? Because this is the best way I’ve found to cut through everything and see who I am so I can shine.” — Michelle, Retreat Student

It is not often that we stop and wonder or go deeper into what the food on our plates is telling us about our beliefs, our judgments, or the ways we hold ourselves back.

We want peace, clarity, joy and forget to use what’s already here as a doorway to exactly what we’ve been missing for most of our lives.

Today, right here, right now, I want to show you how to open that door.

It’s four days -- right in the middle of this chaotic life as we’ve now come to know it -- to come into community with other retreat students and to dive deeply into your relationship with food and all that it can reveal to you in this extraordinary time. You will.

  • Listen to your body and feed it what it truly wants
  • Learn and directly experience what “enough” is
  • Identify the positive and often unconscious reasons why you keep the weight struggle alive
  • Identify your patterns of eating/working/spending and how change happens for you
  • Learn to channel the obsession with food, weight, and body in a life-affirming direction
  • Explore your beliefs about abundance, scarcity, relaxation, and kindness
  • Begin to turn off the inner critic and treat yourself with exquisite kindness
  • Learn the tools to change what limits your life and the shape of your body
  • Discover gratitude for and confidence in your own life
  • And find peace within yourself and your world

Most importantly, you'll remember what it feels like to end your suffering now and allow your one-of-a-kind fabulousness to manifest.

And once you know those things are possible for you, you can never go back to believing that they are not.

Open the Doorway To The Bright Spirit At The Center Of Your Life

"Life is so fragile, so to continue the journey without loving myself fully was simply something I had to change.  Thank you Geneen, team and other attendees for helping me down this path.  I have so much gratitude for you all and the process."   -- Lucy Lansford, May Retreat Student

Ask yourself how you want to live.

Ask yourself what you would do with your time if your days were numbered (because they are. You just don’t know what the number is!)

And ask yourself what and how you would eat.

While you might be tempted to say, “I’d eat cheesecake all day and pizza all night, because who cares about clogged arteries or cholesterol?” ask yourself if that is true.

If life is so precious, why would you want to spend one minute of it making yourself feel sick?

Why would you spend even thirty seconds causing yourself discomfort and taking your attention away from what and whom you love?

Support Continues After The Online Retreat

As you experience the online retreat, you remember that there are certain concrete actions you can take, today, now, that will affect everything you eat, do, feel, and think.

Breaking free from emotional and compulsive eating is not a mystery.  It’s not even very complex.  But it does take doing something differently. And it does take support.

Because we see that it makes such a difference in forever changing your relationship with food, we have set up extensive ongoing support programs only available to retreat students:

  • Two small weekend groups with Geneen that are only open to retreat students. These are deep immersion opportunities with Geneen at an intimate, beautiful residential setting in San Rafael, CA. The next small gathering is scheduled for Sept. 3-6, 2020.
  • Group phone calls and morning meditation calls each month with Geneen and Lauren, our co-facilitator.  This support offers time together with your retreat community with the opportunity to work on issues that are surfacing.
  • Monthly small group sessions of 4 or 5, meeting by phone with Lauren and other retreat students for one-to-one personalized support.
  • Peer support with others from the retreat connecting by phone, text and email. The women in our retreat community make up an invaluable support network for this work. Making connections with others are  during the online retreat will be facilitated.
  • Coming to in-person retreats to continue the exploration of your relationship with food as the path to almost everything.

Take this extraordinary time and end the quest to fix yourself and learn to live your life from that open vast magnificent place that has never been broken.
